, larry, the company, carnival, has told us that a number of their executives and their staff will be coming out to meet you on board as well as members from customs and boarder patrol agents. have they -- have you seen a big presence in terms of how the ship has responded to this emergency? how they've informed you? have you been mustered to prepare for an emergency, or do you feel like you're sort of on your own out there? >> we haven't really seen much carnival presence other than the normal, i mean, the ship's captain who will make an announcement and then -- make an announcement and after that the passengers just stand around and say, okay, what did you get out of that, what are they really trying to tell us because we know they're not telling us everything. >> and they also -- they mentioned to us in the press conference, larry, there's only been one report of someone who was ill who was taken off the ship, but in the conditions that you were just describing to us live on board the ship you are on, raw sewage sloshing about, mattresses soaked in sewage, backed-up showers

is there live with new information for us. a very active scene still, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. i just heard from the spokesperson from alameda spokesperson. he's on the way to the scene to give us more information. we're on marcella street which is the road that runs right in front of hillside elementary. you can see for a couple blocks it is still shut down. deputies have got this area shut down. the school is off to the right up on that mound there. you can see red lights of the school. it was around 8:45 last night well after the kids were off campus after school was out of session that someone called 911 because they heard multiple shots fired. when the alameda county sheriff's office arrived, they found a young man, an adult but young man, on campus suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. they took him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. they are telling us that this is the first homicide of the year for them. it appears they have not made any arrests as of yet. if you want to look at our live chopper video you can get a sense of where the shooting

news faster, we will turn to jackies sizzle who joins us live. >> they're not going to have classes' here today because of this investigation. they're still trying to determine what happened and there are a few details that are coming out right now. we just spoke with someone from alameda police department and they stated that about 8:45 p.m. they received a call about fires being shot on this street. ted that when they arrived they discovered that one victim had a gunshot wound and that they were transported to a hospital where he died of his injuries. there is not a lot of descriptions for the victim. he was a young adult and that is about it for right now. because of the time of when that happens crime scene investigators were out but obviously they were waiting to get a break to come so that they can investigate more. this is why the schools will remain closed for today. you will see that there will be a search of the grounds and that we will have canine units out. they will do a real search. >> this is what we're seeing out here right now within the last 15 to 20 minutes more r

in dana bash. she's working this story for us. the critics of chuck hagel, and there are many, they are not giving up? >> they are not. and that's really what this is about. this is about hagel's harshest critics to say that they are not happy. it's a big deal. they are saying, mr. president, please withdraw it. if you look at these faces, they are the most conservative members of the senate so it isn't surprising that they would be this aggressive on what has really become a partisan issue and they know what that what has happened in this recess -- the senate is in recession -- is that some of their fellow republicans have come out and said, we will allow this to go forward. so they know it's not technically going to be possible for them to stop it but the votes, they thought maybe if there was a bombshell that came out during this time, that would help. they were digging for it. that didn't happen. what is interesting, we are going to see a very partisan vote and that is very different from what we have seen in the past most recent defense secretary votes. take a look at thi
